Chamber Receives Update from Broadwater Trails Committee

MT43 News Staff Reporter

Carol Hatfield, member of the Parks & Recreation Board and Broadwater Trails Committee, spoke August 20 at Chamber members’ morning meeting at Memorial Park.

Hatfield explained the long- term plan for the 2 parcels of land near Connor’s Field that the county granted to the Parks and Recreation Board. Committee members led a May cleanup with volunteers and now have some ground renovation to do near the former original site of the county retirement home on Centerville Lane. She elaborated that the group plans to sign an MOU with Townsend Rotary to pursue grant money from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to build parks in the Canton Lane and Centerville Lane parcels. In a separate endeavor, the committee is working with Broadwater Community Development Corporation (BCDC) members to apply for a Montana Dept. of Transportation MDOT transportation (CETP) grant to build a trail from the Fairgrounds to town.

In other business, the Chamber finalized Shakespeare in the Parks event Sept. 6 at Heritage Park. Several nonprofits and individuals have donated to cover the $1,800 cost of hosting the group in Townsend. The event, beginning at 5:00 p.m., is free to the public.

Beginning next year, Broadwater Community Theater will be hosting Shakespeare in the Parks. Chamber board members agreed to transfer the event to BCT.

A membership drive for the Chamber starts this month. Members will be around encouraging local businesses to join the organization.

All businesses are encouraged to attend Chamber meetings. The next meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 15 at 8:30 a.m. at the Mint.
