The Broadwater cross-country team began their 2026 campaign on Friday, August 28th at the Billings Invitational. The Bulldogs were excited to see the course at Amend Park, as it will also serve as the venue for the state competition at the end of October. Over sixty teams from across Montana and Wyoming opened their season in Billings.

The Varsity men’s teams took to the course first with senior Dallas Fligge crossing the line first for the Bulldogs in 88th place with a time of 18:15, while sophomore Clayton Rice was next in 122nd at 19:04. The rest of the team finished as follows: 211th Gavin Johnson 21:31, 217th Luke Tullos 21:48, and 228th Urijah Duede 22:14.

The largest race of the day was the Junior Varsity men’s race consisting of 326 runners. Freshman Everett Kirksey led the way for the Bulldogs in 189th place with a 22:29 time. Rounding out the JV team were: 198th Mason Johnson 22:37, 291st Declan Toney 26:17, 295th Jayden Flynn 26:42, 307th Cooper Nichter 28:33, and 312th Isaiah Sparks-Lowry 29:50.

Defending Class B State Champion Kyla Meissner looked strong with a 5th place finish in the Varsity women’s race with her 2nd fastest time ever of 18:33. Junior Elaine MacDonald was 97th out of the 249 runners with 22:13 and freshman Kathryn Six was 163rd with 23:56. The rest of the team finished: 204th Addy Mosher 25:19, 210th Alexis Fryer 25:25, 217th Kensley Sangray 25:58, and 232nd Sarah Morgan 27:26.

Sophomore Kay Crusch looked impressive in her first race, finishing 85th at 24:55 during the Junior Varsity women’s race. 155th Lydia Brakefield 27:10, 200th Shalyn Sentinella 29:24, and 225th Courtney Webber 31:54 completed the JV team.

Head coach Brooke Dolan, along with assistant coach Louis Ingalls, has been busy preparing their large team of 25 harriers, a mix of veterans along with eight freshmen and five first-time cross-country runners. The Bulldogs will compete next on Thursday afternoon, September 3rd, in Manhattan, followed by the Pony Meet on Thursday morning, September 10th.
