Holy Cross Parish Party in the Park Holy Cross Parish Holy Cross Parish will sponsor the annual community event, “Party in the Park,” on Friday, September 11. Everyone is invited to come out to Heritage Park for a free supper, games, and a movie. Bring blankets and lawn chairs for your comfort during the movie.

A free taco supper will begin at 6:30. The movie “Rudy" will begin about 8 p.m. Since the Bulldogs won’t have a game that weekend, it’s a good night for a football movie!

On the 25th anniversary of the attacks upon the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, this evening of fellowship and fun in the community will witness to the spirit of goodwill and peace practiced by Christians throughout the world.

This year, the date of the party coincides with the weekend the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of the Holy Cross, a remembrance of the Cross of Jesus in salvation. Holy Cross Parish was established in Townsend in 1899. The parishioners had previously been part of St. Joseph’s Parish in Canton. The parishioners first met upstairs in the mercantile store until they could erect a church. In 1903, the brick Holy Cross church on South Walnut Street was dedicated with a large crowd in attendance. That church survived the earthquakes of 1925, 1935, and 1959, plus normal aging due to weather, until it was replaced by the current Holy Cross church on the same site in July of 1964.

The weatherman is forecasting a beautiful day September 11, so a perfect evening for the family to come out for a free dinner and movie at Heritage Park.
