Broadwater County Trails

Your Broadwater County Trails Team is moving forward with the Townsend North Asphalt Trail resurfacing contract; busy this week, with completion within a couple of weeks or sooner if the weather cooperates. Please stay off the trail while construction is underway and we’ll announce a formal public re-opening when all work is completed.

The Team continues to review newly announced grant opportunities that fit with the mission of a trail network development within and across the county. We continue to be optimistic of having success being granted funding to help with specific trail work. We also continue to work closely with the County Parks and Recreation Board looking to partner on trails and county parkland development efforts.

We thank everyone that stopped by our booth at the Broadwater County Fair and learned about our trail efforts and supported us by signing our petition for developing the Fairgrounds multi-purpose trail. We continue to gather signatures of support so when we get to the application time we will have a very strong show of public support for this trail specifically. You will find our petitions at our booths at the Billings Clinic Health Fair and Fall Fest. Please help by signing this petition in support of the trail.

The Trails Team will be conducting Walking Audits, a review developed by AARP and America Walks, to help bring a systematic review of walking routes to bring a focus on improvements that will lead to safer routes for walkers and especially seniors, children and ADA compliance. Join us on September 9th, 6 pm at the parking area next to City Hall as we gather to learn the audit process, train, and be prepared to spread out and do more in the Townsend area. A second walking audit is scheduled for September15th. These audit results, presented in a final year end report back to AARP, will help the Trails Team be more successful in seeking future grants to help make Broadwater County a safer place to move throughout our county.

BCT Team will have a booth at the Billings Clinic Health Fair. Stop by, ask questions, learn, and support the Trail Team’s efforts to help make Broadwater County a healthier place to live, work, and play on our developing trail system. Join us for the Community Fall Colors Hike, September 12 at 10 am at the end of Canton Lane, pond 3, into the WMA with fall colors and an ornithologist (invited) to provide birding information.

Broadwater County Trails team meets the second Thursday of each month, with the next meeting September 10th, 6 pm at the Lodge. Come join us. The team welcomes new team members and ideas.
